How to Make Gasoline in ARK

Gasoline is the fuel that keeps a mid-game base running in ARK: Survival Evolved and ARK: Survival Ascended. It powers the electrical generator, the fabricator, and the industrial forge, among other structures, and it is crafted by combining two materials that any player gathers from the earliest hours of a playthrough.

What You Need to Craft Gasoline

The recipe is the same in both games: 6 units of oil and 5 units of hide for every 5 gasoline. Crafting happens in a Refining Forge or an Industrial Forge and takes about 30 seconds per batch.

The Refining Forge unlocks at level 20 and only needs stone, flint, hide, wood, and fiber to build. The Industrial Forge arrives at level 80 and can produce up to 100 gasoline at once if you have enough raw materials, making it the go-to option for bases with Tek generators or several fabricators running.

How to Craft Gasoline Step by Step

1. Place 6 oil and 5 hide in the inventory of the Refining Forge or Industrial Forge.
2. Select the gasoline option in the structure’s crafting menu.
3. Wait the 30 seconds the process takes.
4. Repeat with the forge loaded to the maximum if you need to produce in bulk.

Where to Get Oil and Hide Quickly

Oil appears in dark veins next to coastal rocks, in snow areas, and underwater. An Ankylosaurus extracts it efficiently on land, while a Dunkleosteus is the best option for underwater veins; you can also use a metal pick if you have not tamed those creatures yet.

Hide comes from harvesting almost any animal on the map, from a Trike to a Stegosaurus. Taming a Direwolf, a Sabertooth, a Therizinosaurus, or a Thylacoleo notably increases hide per hit, so it is worth having them ready before you organize a farming session.

Gasoline Console Command

If you administer your own server and need gasoline for testing or to restock quickly, the command is:

cheat gfi Gasoline 1 0 0

The first number after Gasoline controls how much you receive. The item ID is 161, so cheat giveitemnum 161 1 0 0 also works. Remember that on a multiplayer server you first need enablecheats with the admin password.

What Gasoline Is Used For in ARK

Once crafted, gasoline powers the fabricator, electrical generator, industrial forge, industrial grill, chemistry bench, industrial grinder, mining drill, zip-line motor, chainsaw, and motorboat. In practice, any base that has moved past basic survival depends on a steady flow of this fuel to keep lights on, craft parts, and extract resources.

The Alternative Method in ARK Survival Ascended

In Ascended there is a second, more advanced route designed for the Aberration biome: heating condensed gas in a Refining Forge produces condensed gas balls, which together with green gems (or fragmented green gems) turn into gasoline at the chemistry bench. Using this path requires learning the gas collector engram first, so in most playthroughs it is still faster to rely on oil and hide.
